Off Center Productions makes one of kind porcelain and stoneware pendants and beads for artisan designers as well as boxes, bowls, trays, and sculptures. We specialize in creating contemporary artifacts that reflect many cultures and record the rituals of our lives. All of our work is made by hand in our studio in Washington State. We sell our work retail as well as wholesale to shops and galleries across the country.

Joan and Lana at Off Center Productions work with porcelain and stoneware in electric and gas kilns. Lana focuses on reduction fired boxes, bowls, and trays. Joan likes to work with electric kilns and cone 6 glazes. Raku is done in the back yard. Their studio is in the old garage and in winter is gets crispy out there. Summer is a glorious time to work in clay in Washing ton State – not too hot and long easy days of creativity. The studio is guarded by two cats, Kramer and Smokie. Both Joan and Lana like to research ancient symbols and also read about ancient potteries and obscure cultural traditions which included pottery. They have a large pottery library collected over many years.

Lana always aims to make the most translucent and thin porcelain bowls; her specialties are large hand built “mother” bowls. Joan likes to use textures and color to make replicas of ancient pieces and also design contemporary artifacts true to the issues of our time. The clays they stock include Groleg 6 and 10, Dove, Sam Scott, Awaji, C-mix, and Suzuki. They mix their own glazes and also stock Laguna, Georgie’s, Seattle Pottery Supply, and Mason stains.

Pottery is a lifelong pursuit and will provide endless hours of design, experimentation and research. Joan and Lana plan to continue their dance with clay and enjoy the entire experience. “ A wild patience has taken me this far” Adrienne Rich
