Evelyn Arvey makes richly patterned ceramic beads. She enjoys bright, rich colors and creating wonderful, intricate textures on her beads. The beads are made by hand in her home studio, and she uses them in combination with her metalwork. She makes necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more, selling them at fine arts and crafts shows near her home in Seattle, WA, or by appointment at her studio.

The beads themselves are slipcast by Evelyn in her own handmade plaster molds. She says that the tiny molds are an art form in themselves! The beads come from the molds completely smooth, and Evelyn applies the color by hand. Some of them are made by sqeezing a thin line from a small tube with a tiny tip (think: cake decorating) and result in a bead with a pronounced texture. Other beads are made by carving through a dark underglaze with a needle tool to reveal the white clay below. With all beads, Evelyn then applies a thin layer of clear, shiny glaze, and then fires them in her kiln.
